When you first estimate the time needed to read one page in each reading source, you don't know if that estimate will be accurate. Your readings may get more challenging as you get deeper into the semester, or you may find yourself reading faster than you initially expected. What’s important is keeping your estimates accurate so you always leave yourself enough time to get your readings done on time.

To do this, record how many pages you read during a planned study block when marking the time as used. Shovel will calculate your average time per page and compare it with your initial estimated time per page for that reading source. It will show you both and allow you to adjust your estimate to today's average or keep the old estimate.

We suggest always adjusting to today's average so that your estimates for future readings are as accurate as possible. Don’t worry—Shovel will apply this change automatically to all the readings from that reading source. This way, you'll always leave yourself the right amount of time to get each reading done on time. And again, if your new time per page is slower, check your cushion to make sure you still have enough time to get everything done on time.
